Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut sent out an email and text alert on Thursday morning warning students and staff of a bomb threat made on the Tasker Building, also known as the Admissions Building, on its main campus in Storrs.
State Police troopers were on the Uconn campus investigating the threat. The Bomb Squad, Tactical team, and Patrol Troopers all responded, State Police said via Twitter.
"If you are in or near this location evacuate now," the school said in the alert.
The school has instructed the rest of students and staff to shelter in place at other campus locations.
The alert was sent out at 9:32 a.m.
The school added in a 9:50 a.m. update that "all faculty, staff and students who are travelling to Storrs campus or plan to travel to campus, are advised to stay off campus at this time until further direction is provided."
UConn students took to Twitter to react to the situation.
"I have literally never seen so many UConn police and fire trucks in my life," Hayden Clarkin tweeted as @hay777 "Glad they don't take bomb threats lightly. #UConn"
Tyler Morrissey, the managing editor of UConn's student newspaper "The Daily Campus" also shared his thoughts on Twitter.
"Bomb threat at the admissions building at #UConn. Stay safe everyone," he tweeted from his handle @TylerRMorrissey.
Christie Scheer said via Twitter @Scheerio22, "I'm slightly confused because "shelter in place" means to stay where you are and everyone seems to be walking around normally #UConn."
Here is the full text of the alert:
