Truck Crash Clogs I-95 in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. - Update, 8 p.m.: Interstate 95 has been reopened.

A tractor-trailer crash has closed lanes of I-95 southbound in the Norwalk area, according to the state police.

The trailer overturned between Exits 14 and 15 at 4:39 p.m. Wednesday. Sgt. Donna Tadiello said the trailer hit a barrier and caught fire. Two cars were also involved in the accident.

Traffic was reportedly tied up for miles in both directions.

Firefighters put out the blaze, and the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with mild to moderate injuries, Tadiello said.

Cars were being diverted onto Route 7 via Exit 15, where they can then take Exit 1 for Norwalk and get back on the highway. The accident should take about three hours to clear.

Tadiello said the exact sequence of events that caused the accident was still unclear, and the incident was still under investigation.
