Train Service Suspended in State

Metro-North Railroad has suspended service on the New Haven Line is suspended in both directions Monday morning due to equipment and switch failures related to the blizzard. This includes service on the main New Haven Line in both Connecticut and New York as well as on the New Canaan and Danbury branches.

The announcement was made at about 4:30 a.m. In New York state, service continues on a regular Sunday schedule on the Hudson Line, which is operating on or close to schedule. The Harlem Line is operating with delays of up to 60 minutes.

In a statement, the railroad said, "Due to the extreme nature of the ongoing blizzard, including high winds and major snow drifts, the MTA is urging its customers to stay home this morning if at all possible."

Mechanical trouble overnight caused a Metro-North train to become stuck for about two hours late Sunday at the Westport station, WestportNow.com reported. Passengers said the train was full when it broke down at the station sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight Sunday. The train originated in New York City and was bound for New Haven. 

The website reported that the train and its passengers returned to 125th Street about 2:30, switched to a diesel train and resumed travel to Connecticut. The train arrived in New Haven at about 6 a.m.
