Tong To Run for Lieberman's Senate Seat

State Rep. William Tong is ready to move to higher office.

The Stamford Democrat, who won a second term to the General Assembly in November, announced his intentions Sunday to run for the U.S. Senate. U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn. and a Stamford resident, announced in January that he would step down from the U.S. Senate when his term expires at the end of next year.

Tong serves in the 147th General Assembly district, which includes parts of Stamford and New Canaan.

Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, a Democrat, and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5th District, have already announced their intentions to run for Lieberman’s seat.
