The New Timetables are (Almost) Here!

It's that time of the year, rail riders  -- the changing of the reliable red Metro-North schedule.  The railroad announced new schedules will be released April 1 (at Grand Central and at New Haven Line stations) and go into effect April 11. The April Fool's release comes after the current October 2009 schedule, set to expire March 27, was extended for two weeks.

What's new for Spring?  Well, slightly slower service on weekends, for one. The railroad's doing drainage improvements on the Harlem Line, which shares tracks in the Bronx with the New Haven Line, and as a result, trains will be moving slowly through the construction area on weekends -- adding two to four minutes to all rides on weekends.

Other than that, Norwalk commuters should note two changes made at the request of the Connecticut Department of Transportation:  The 7:59 a.m. train from New Haven to Grand Central will leave two minutes earlier (7:57 a.m.) and add a stop in East Norwalk;  and the 8:50 a.m. train from New Haven to Grand Central will leave a minute earlier (8:49 a.m.) and add a stop in South Norwalk.
