NORWALK, Conn. A Tennessee man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a local teen in Norwalk last week, Norwalk Police say. The 15-year-old girl said no, but Rhett Hughes, 18, had sexual intercourse with her, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. She had bruises when she was examined Wednesday. He was arrested Thursday night.
The girl visited Hughes at an Olean Street apartment Friday, Jan. 27, Cotto said. Other people were there, hanging out and watching television. Hughes and the victim were talking, and then they went into a room alone. "He sort of got her against the wall," Cotto said. "He was drinking. Things got out of hand; he took off his clothes."
She was scared and did not tell anybody until Wednesday. Adults took her to a clinic in Stamford, where medical personnel found evidence of a sexual assault, Cotto said. A decision was made to tell police, and the girl went to police headquarters with the adults. Hughes was arrested at 8 p.m. in the apartment, where he has been staying. He said he had "been drinking Loko" when the incident occurred, according to Cotto.
He was charged with first-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault and injury/risk/impairing morals. Bond was set at $100,000.
