Tapped Out? Not Quite, But Be Frugal

Aquarion Water Co. is asking customers in lower Fairfield County to cut back on water usage until July 14 because of the high demand caused by the heat wave. The company says demand on Tuesday was the highest in its 153 years.

Aquarion "strongly recommends" that customers adopt an odd-even lawn watering system, according to a press release. Under this system, people in homes with odd-numbered addresses should water on odd-numbered days and those with even-numbered addresses on even days.

The company is also asking customers to defer washing boats, cars, and other motor vehicles at home for at least a week; when using a car wash, be sure it recycles its water; turn off any ornamental fountains; defer power-washing homes, decks or other areas; cover pools when not in use to prevent evaporation.
