Suspected Terrorist Tied to Norwalk

Faisal Shazad appeared to live the life of a suburban husband and father. Shazad, who admitted to leaving the car bomb in Times Square, lived and worked in Fairfield County with multiple ties to Norwalk. The naturalized citizen earned degrees at the University of Bridgeport, bought a series of residences and worked for a local company before his life seemed to fall apart.

Saddled with debt, Shazad and his wife recently forfeited their home in Shelton. The couple had bought the house with the proceeds from the sale of a condominium they owned in Norwalk. Published reports reveal they had sold the Norwalk residence in 2004 for $261,000.

Shazad also worked in Norwalk with the Affinion Group, a marketing and consulting company that has since moved its offices to Stamford. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as a junior financial analyst. Company officials say he left the company voluntarily and they are now cooperating with federal authorities, offering any records that may aid the investigation.

On Tuesday, federal authorities pulled Shazad off a plane bound for Dubai and charged him with terrorism and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
