A public information session will be held in Westport on Thursday, Aug. 18, to investigate the July 22 stranding of hundreds of commuters on a train near the Greens Farm station.
"It was the hottest day of the year," said Jim Cameron, chairman of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council. "We need to know what happened on that train that made riders feel so desperate that they had to call 911 to be rescued. The real issue isn't just our aging fleet, it's the communications breakdown between Metro North, first responders and commuters."
More than 200 people were trapped on the train in 100 degree-plus heat. "We are encouraging everyone on that trapped train, and the tens of thousands of passengers who were delayed that day, to attend this hearing and tell what happened," Cameron said. "But we also want commuters to hear from the railroad their side of the story."
The hearing will take place at 6 p.m. in Westport Town Hall. In addition, the Commuter Council will discuss the incident in detail at its next meeting on Wednesday, August 24, at 7 p.m. at the offices of the Southwestern Regional Planning Agency at Stamford Government Center.
