NORWALK, Conn. Flooding from severe thunderstorms on Sunday evening wreaked havoc on the roadways in Norwalk.
No injuries were reported as of 7 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Gino Gatto said.
At one point we had everyone out there, five engines, two ladders, a rescue truck and a command car with 33 firefighters, Gatto said. He added that by 7 p.m. all the trucks and engines were returning to the fire house.
Among the incidents the fire department responded to was a stuck car on Osborne Avenue, where reportedly a person was inside. Gatto had no further details but said it had been cleared.
The department also responded to a shed fire on Orange Street, and while Gatto said the fire was out, the cause had not yet been determined. A fire inspector arrived at about 6:30 p.m.
The Connecticut State Police dispatch reported that while the area around Exit 16 in Norwalk did have water on the roads, the highway was open with slow traffic.
I just came across the Route 7 connecter, 95 is slow but moving, said Gatto.
The state police were also on scene for a car fire on the Merritt Parkway between exits 40 and 39. The Norwalk Fire Department responded and put the fire out, Gatto said. The state police said the area of the fire had been cleared and all lanes were open.
