State To Hold Sept. 11 Memorial Service

WESTPORT, Conn. – A memorial service honoring the Connecticut residents who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be held Thursday at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Gov. Dannel Malloy's office announced.

During the service, to be led by Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, a sculpture partly made from aluminum cladding from the World Trade Center will be unveiled. An American flag that flew over a military base in Afghanistan will be presented to the state by the 1st Battalion 102nd Infantry Regiment.

The names of the victims will be read aloud and family members of the victims will participate in the service, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
