STAMFORD, Conn. Preliminary funeral arrangements have been made for 31-year-old Navy SEAL Brian Bill, who was killed in action Aug. 6 in Afghanistan.
Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home announced that a Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilias Church in Stamford at a date to be announced. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.
A graduate of Trinity Catholic High School and Norwich University, Bill enlisted in the Navy in 2001 and achieved his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL in 2003. During his service with the SEALS, he was decorated with three Bronze Stars with Valor, a Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Combat Action Ribbons and three Good Conduct Medals.
During his free time he enjoyed fly-fishing, skiing and skydiving. He was also an accomplished mountaineer, with successful summits of Aconcagua in Argentina and Mount Elbrus in Russia. He also completed several marathons and had a pilots license.
Bill is survived by his parents, Scott Bill and Patricia Parry and her husband, Dr. Michael Parry; his grandmother, Betty Hardiman; two brothers, Christian Bill and Morgan Bill; four sisters, Amy Kutney and her husband, Chad, Andrea Sholes and her husband, Christopher, Kerry Welsh and Tessa Bill; many aunts, uncles and cousins, and two nieces.
In lieu of flowers donations in Bills name can be made to the Navy SEAL Foundation or to Norwich University for a scholarship to be named later.
