Update 9 p.m.: Stamford police located the boy who was reportedly thrown in the trunk of a car and called off an amber alert issued for him, the Stamford Advocate reported.
Police found the boy at his mother's Stamford apartment at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. Lt. Beth Erickson said everyone was "safe and sound." The father denied putting the boy in the trunk. The witness later told police he was not sure of his account. No arrests will be made, police said.
Original story: STAMFORD, Conn. An amber alert was issued early Wednesday evening after a witness saw a young child put into the back of a Honda Civic at the Stamford Town Center, a Stamford Advocate article said.
The witness saw a 4- or 5-year-old child screaming and crying with a man and woman. The witness approached, and the man put the crying child into the trunk and took off, the story said. Police are looking for a Black Honda Civic, with New York license plates reading ENL9676, the story said. The plates are registered to a Brooklyn address.
The New York and Connecticut State Police and other law enforcement agencies have been notified, the story said. A missing child has not been reported in Stamford, the story said.
