NORWALK, Conn. A Stamford senior rolled his vehicle over on I-95 Sunday night, but he didn't let that stop him. He drove the vehicle off the highway and headed into Norwalk.
Norwalk Police Officer Louis Proto spotted the badly damaged Jeep Grand Cherokee heading up West Avenue near Berkley Street at about 9:10 p.m., sparks and smoke flying from the rims as the vehicle rode on two blown out tires. The front window was smashed, the roof was damaged and the lights were off.
Police say Donald Garbera, 66, of 59 Woodway Road appeared shaken up but okay. The Norwalk Fire Department extricated him from the vehicle. He suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to Norwalk Hospital.
State police said Garbera was traveling south on I-95 in the right lane and lost control of his vehicle just before Exit 14 at about 9 p.m. He swerved into the right shoulder, rolling the Jeep over. Norwalk Police Officer William Curwen said Garbera landed on the guard rail when he rolled over, skidded along and then became upright again.
State police issued Garbera a citation for failing to stay in the correct lane. The vehicle was totaled.
