Stamford Man Reports Being Stabbed in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. -- A Stamford man came to Norwalk Hospital late Tuesday morning for treatment of puncture wounds he said he had received the night before, police reported. Norwalk Police Sgt. Lisa Cotto said the man gave the following story to police:

Someone tried to rob him between 4 and 5 a.m. on North Taylor Avenue and he had been stabbed. The victim claimed that his trunk had popped open and he got out to fix the broken mechanism. A man carrying a large kitchen knife came toward him, but he had a golf club in the open trunk and was able to defend himself. The assailant fought back, and he was knocked to the ground. The assailant ran away.

The victim had two superficial lacerations on his right shoulder and two puncture wounds, Cotto said. He tried to treat the wound himself, but hours later drove from Stamford to Norwalk, because, he said, the quality of care is better here. The detective bureau is trying to determine where the stabbing happened, Cotto said.

Also on the police blotter:

? A pedestrian was injured late Tuesday afternoon on Van Buren Avenue when she was struck by a HumVee, police report. The 19-year-old victim was conscious and taken to Norwalk Hospital with a bump on her head.

Sgt. Lisa Cotto said the woman’s mother told police her daughter didn't want to wait after they got off the bus and walked into the road. The driver and witnesses said the young woman had run into the road, police said. There was no damage to the vehicle and speed was not a factor, police said. Cotto said the pedestrian was cited for unsafe use of a highway by a pedestrian.
