St. George Greek Fest Draws Big Crowds In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. — Rides, games, traditional dance and delicious food make the St. George Greek Festival the biggest event of the year for the St. George Greek Orthodox Church. This year’s festival welcomes 4,000 patrons for the four-day event that ends Sunday.

The festival is open until 11 p.m. Saturday and noon-10 p.m. Sunday.

Festivalgoers enjoy traditional dance and music from a Greek band at the taverna in the evenings. During the day, kids can enjoy 15 rides, from the Hurricane and Fun Slide to the Jitterbug and Dragon Wagon.

Greek pastries are available, including baklava and kataifi, as well as souvlaki and other foods.

The tent raffle on Sunday offers an array of prizes, with a Rolex watch offered as the grand prize; TVs, iPads and baseball tickets also will be awarded to lucky winners.

This is the 35th year of the festival, and it has been a lot more successful than last year’s, which was marred by Hurricane Irene.

“The festival was closed after one-and-a-half days last year,” said festival chairman George Cross. “We’ve had much better weather this year.”
