Rain, heavy at times, was expected to begin after 9 a.m. Thursday in southwestern Connecticut, with a high temperature in the low 60s, the weather service said. New rainfall amounts of three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch were predicted.
A flood watch will go into effect at 8 a.m. Thursday and continue to 8 a.m. Saturday, the weather service said. There could be small stream and urban flooding as well as poor drainage flooding. Larger rivers may approach their banks.
The rain was expected to continue into Thursday evening, with another 1 to 2 inches possible, the weather service said. Patchy fog was expected after midnight with temperatures in the low 50s and northeast winds of 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Showers were possible Friday, mainly until 3 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies, a high near 68 degrees and north winds of 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
June has been a rainy month for Fairfield County, with nearly 4 inches of rain falling last week as Tropical Storm Andrea moved through the region.
