NORWALK, Conn. -- An annual holiday party thrown by state Sen. Bob Duff is the gift that keeps on giving for many local Norwalk organizations.

Duff, D-Norwalk/Darien and the senate majority leader, presented donations totaling $17,150 to eight local nonprofits, including The Carver Center, Children’s Connection, Community Plates, the Fire Victims Fund, Norwalk Police Activities League, Norwalk Reads!, Person-to-Person, and St. Vincent de Paul during an event Thursday at the Norwalk Fire Department Station No. 2 at 121 Connecticut Ave.

“This year we had a record amount donated,” Duff said. “Thank you to the donors that made this possible and to the great community organizations here. And especially thanks to my wife, Tracey, who did all the cooking for the event. These donations really do make a difference here in the community. I am very grateful for the generosity of the members of the public and companies that donated.”

Norwalk Police Activities League Director Matt Heffer said the donation to his group will go a long way.

"This is huge because every dollar counts," he said. "Any dollar that we can get to help these children out definitely helps."

The executive director of the nonprofit Person-To-Person said the support ensures people are fed and able to stay in their homes. "The impact of the food and the toys and the financial assistance is huge," Ceci Mahe said.

The donations were raised through Duff’s annual holiday party, where guests donated 500 pounds of food, 90 toys, and money for local nonprofits. Donations came from a number of local businesses.
