Republicans Vow to Unseat Dems

Norwalk's Republican Town Committee swung into full campaign mode at its meeting Monday evening. Declared candidates met with the party faithful and together they pledged to elect Republicans to every level of office come November. "This is not the year to have a "D" next to your name," said Rob Simmons, a candidate for the United States Senate.

Art Scialabba, Norwalk Committee chairman, introduced the candidates to the friendly crowd. The speakers spent a few minutes outlining their priorities before taking questions. Whether running for state or national office, they pledged tax cuts and support for small businesses. Senate candidates promised, if elected, to repeal "Obamacare," the nickname for the recently passed federal health care law. A few evoked the memory of President Ronald Reagan and slammed Richard Blumenthal, the Connecticut attorney general who is running for the U.S. Senate on the Democratic ticket. "If we can get good candidates, we can beat the Democrats," said Tom Foley, a candidate for governor.

While the candidates distribute campaign literature and gather endoresements, the Republican leadership is preparing for the state convention scheduled for May 13. At the convention, delegates will select the party's endorsed candidates.
