FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Jim Himes is happy to stay right where he is and keep doing the work he is doing. The Connecticut representative announced that he is not looking to replace Senator Joe Lieberman when the latter retires in 2012.
"No, I'm absolutely not looking at the Senate seat," Himes said while appearing on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" on Friday. "I've been in Congress for just 30 months now, so I'm catching my stride here."
He added, "With a background in financial services, I feel I can be useful to this very technical argument about how you regulate banks and that sort of thing."
Himes also has two young girls, and says he does not want to put them through a statewide campaign.
The Connecticut Mirror reported that former Republican Representative Chris Shays will make a run for the empty seat. Himes defeated Shays in 2008 for Connecticut's 4th Congressional District.
Also running for the seat is Chris Murphy, a Democratic representative for Connecticut's 5th District -- which includes parts of Fairfield County and most of northwestern Connecticut.
"I think we're going to have a good campaign and election for that Senate seat," Himes said.
