Rain, Wind May Mess Up Holiday Travel Plans

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year, could be a rough one, full of airport delays and nasty driving conditions for travelers in Fairfield County and the rest of the Northeast.

A wet and windy storm is forecast to plow into the region Tuesday and Wednesday, the National Weather Service says.

"There is potential for a significant storm with heavy precipitation, heavy winds and even coastal flooding Tuesday night into Thursday," the Weather Service says.

The good news? Thanksgiving Day is supposed to be sunny and cool.

The rain is forecast to start later Tuesday, with the heaviest showers coming Tuesday night and throughout the day Wednesdsay. There is a 90 percent chance of rain, and the storm could leave behind up to 2 inches of rain, the Weather Service says.

Along with sloppy travel, flooding is a big threat from this storm, particularly during the high tide Wednesday morning, the Weather Service says.

"There is still some uncertainty with the specifics of this system," the Weather Service says.
