Public Warned of Measles Exposure

The Connecticut Department of Public Health has put out an advisory warning that passengers on the Cross Sound Ferry and guests of a Long Island hotel may have been exposed to measles from July 7-9.

The ferry’s route carries it from New London to Orient Point, N.Y.  "Times of travel are the 1 p.m. ferry 'John H' to Orient Point and its return trip to New London at 3 p.m. Persons who visited or stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Riverhead, N.Y. from Wednesday, July 7 through Friday, July 9," also may have been exposed.

Measles are high contagious and spreads easily. Early symptoms are usually those of a bad cold. Such as a fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose and sensitive eyes. Signs of infection start to occur 10 to 12 days after exposure, although they can start as late as 21 days after exposure.
