Both the Republican and the Democratic gubernatorial races appear to be headed to primaries in August. On Saturday, the Republicans endorsed Tom Foley on the first ballot with 50.7 percent of the vote. The Democrats endorsed Dan Malloy by a margin of more than two to one. In both races, additional candidates garnered enough votes to qualify for a primary run off and they have already pledged to do so.
Dan Malloy easily won the Democrats endorsement for governor with Ned Lamont coming in second. Malloy received 1,232 votes to Lamonts 582. Lamont received 33 percent of the vote, more than enough to force a primary on Aug. 10.
With the retirement of Gov. Jodi Rell at the end of this year, this will be the first election since 1994 that the Democratic candidate will not face a Republican incumbent for the gubenatorial seat.
