Police Seek Public's Help in Shooting

Norwalk Police detectives are seeking witnesses to the shooting that occurred in SoNo on Sunday night because the victim, a 31-year-old man, is refusing to assist in the investigation.

“The victim is refusing to cooperate with detectives,” said Lt. Paul Resnick, spokesperson for the NPD. “His lack of cooperation is making the job that much tougher.”

Police responded Sunday night to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the vicinity of South Main Street and Belle Avenue. Resnick said the officers arrived on the scene “within seconds” and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The man said he had fled an attempted robbery. Resnick described the injuries as “non-life threatening.”

Detectives collected forensic evidence from the scene but are asking anyone with information to contact the police at 203-854-3111. Anonymous tips can be sent via the NPD website: www.norwalkpd.com. Resnick said any information left on the website is routed through a service that removes all identification before returning the information to the Norwalk detectives to insure anonymity.

“Solving crime is a partnership,” said Resnick. “The best solutions are found when the public and the police work together to make our neighborhoods safer.”
