Police Pursue Pair Across County

Paul Joyce, of Bridgeport, and Barbara Quirk, of Danbury, led area police on a multitown chase before crashing their stolen vehicle in Bridgeport yesterday. Joyce was taken to Bridgeport Hospital before being turned over to police.

Westport Officer Ryan Paulsson spotted the vehicle which was reported stolen in Stratford on June 5. He hit the siren and the lights. Joyce didn't hit the brakes. Instead, he led Westport police in a game of hopping on and off of Intertsate 95 between exits 19 and 24.

Fairfield officers took over the pursuit from there, following Joyce and Quirk to exit 28, East Main Street. From there Bridgeport and State Police joined the chase through Bridgeport. At the intersection of Seaview Avenue and Grant Street Joyce's criminal flight came to an end after ramming both a Bridgeport and a Fairfield squad car. Joyce was taken to the hospital and Quirk into Westport Police custody.

On leaving the hospital, Joyce tried to ditch the police and hospital security escort and make a break for it on foot. He was recaptured on Mill Hill Avenue.

Joyce was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, engaging in police pursuit, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to signal turn and operating without a license. Joyce was also charged with escape from custody. He is being held on a $160,000.00 bond. There is also an active warrant out of Danbury for Joyce.

Quirk was charged with larceny conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and criminal impersonation. Quirk also had an active warrant for violation of probation stemming from a larceny arrest in Stratford. Quirk is being held on a $50,000.00 bond.
