Police Find Hit-and-Run Suspect

New Canaan Police said they have found the vehicle and driver involved in Wednesday's fatal hit-and-run accident. They have positively identified the car as a 2008 Infiniti QX56 sports utility vehicle, which is now in police custody pending a search warrant. Police think the driver at the time was a 32-year-old New Canaan woman, whom they would not identify because the investigation is still ongoing.

Jayaraman Krishna, 84, of New Canaan, was walking to his mailbox around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday when a driver heading toward the New York State border struck him, causing severe head and leg trauma. Jayamaran died of "multiple traumatic blunt injuries" at Norwalk Hospital, according to the medical examiner's report. Jayaraman's son, J. Krishna, told reporters Thursday that his father was "in fine health" before the accident.

Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact the New Canaan Police at (203) 594-3500. "Even if they don't think it's important, it might be," Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.
