NY Man Charged With Gun Possession in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – A South Norwalk resident was shocked early Tuesday to hear that a loaded gun was found in his back yard, Norwalk Police said. An alleged gang member, who was shot Feb. 10 on Ely Avenue, was arrested in the case.

Ibo Boone, 25, of the Bronx, N.Y., has been involved in numerous incidents in Norwalk, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. Boone was spotted at 12:39 a.m. Tuesday by police patrolling Kossuth Street, the scene of increased gang and narcotics activity, Cotto said. As soon as Officer Brendan Collins turned onto the street, Boone fled, running into the driveway of 5 Kossuth St., holding something in his hand, police said. Boone jumped over a fence of 3 Kossuth St., but Collins did not chase him, calling instead for backup, police said.

Boone was stopped by another officer on Lexington Street, Cotto said, and he no longer had something in his hand. Police asked him why he had been running, and he said he didn't know what they were talking about. Police patted him down and put him in a patrol car, and went back to Kossuth Street. There, they said, they found a black bag with a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver, loaded with five bullets, in the spot where Boone jumped the fence.

Police knocked on the door, and the resident of the home said he did not know where the gun came from. Boone, who police said is a member of the Meadow Gardens-based MGs gang, was charged with criminal trespass third degree and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver. He was released on $100,000 bond.

Boone suffered non-life threatening injuries in the Feb. 10 shooting, which Chief Harry Rilling said was part of a retaliatory string of gun violence dating back several years. Boone's shooting was one week after Norwalk's first homicide of 2012, the death of Joseph Bateman, a witness to the 2010 killing of Amos Brown Jr.
