NORWALK, Conn. -- With Veterans Day approaching, Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff is inviting Norwalk and Darien veterans to participate in a special ceremony in recognition of their wartime service.
The ceremony will be held at the Norwalk Public Library Main Branch Auditorium, 1 Belden Ave., on Thursday, Nov. 12. from 10 a.m. to noon.
Eligible veterans will receive the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal. The medal was established by the General Assembly in 2005 to honor all Connecticut veterans with qualifying wartime military service. However, awareness of the medal’s existence has been limited.
Before 2005, Connecticut had not honored its veterans with a wartime service medal since World War I.
“Our veterans have served and sacrificed on behalf of this nation and I am committed to not only improving the critical services our veterans receive, but to ensuring that veterans are properly recognized,” said Duff.
If you are a wartime veteran and have not already received your Service Medal and have not received an application in the mail, contact Duff at 860-240-0414 or email at Bob.Duff@cga.ct.gov.
