Norwalker Killed While Crossing Vermont Street

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk woman, who died after being hit by a car in Vermont, was wearing dark clothing while crossing the street at night, according to a statement from the Rutland Police Department.

Nancee L. Gell, 54, was trying to cross South Main Street in front of the Economy Inn in Rutland on Sunday evening, police say. She was struck at 8:10 p.m. by a Subaru Legacy driven by a 16-year-old. Alcohol was not a factor, and speed does not appear to have played a role. Rain at the time may have affected visibility.

South Main Street is also known as Route 7.

Gell was the operator of Purple Turtle Catering Company. She joined the Bucket List Bunch, a meetup.com group, in April. Asked, "What was the last fun thing you did or wanted to do?" She replied, "Skiing with the bears."

She was also a member of meet-up groups Stamford Skiers and Boarders, Norwalk Eating and Drinking, Wine Lovers of Fairfield, Westport and Beyond, and 5 Boro Exploration.

Gell worked in the electronic security industry in Stamford, according to Chamber.com. GoBeyondSecurity.com describes her as a business development manager. She attended the University of Florida and was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Florida Gators, according to her Facebook page.

The investigation into her death was continuing. Anyone walking or driving in area of South Main Street in Rutland at 8 p.m. Sunday is asked to call Detective Sam Delpha at 802-773-1816.
