The Pantry provides food to students so they can remain in school and, ultimately, earn their degree.

Data shows 39 to 59 percent of college students experience food insecurity, with community college students being at a higher rate This has a negative impact on their grade point averages, levels of energy, and concentration.

“Norwalk Community College has been a valuable partner with the symphony, and we are pleased to offer our patrons an opportunity to support the Pantry” said Chris Bell, president of The Norwalk Symphony.

The Norwalk Community College choir has performed with the symphony in the past and will be one of the groups at "La Boheme," during Saturday's performance at Norwalk City Hall.

In addition, NCC students in the film and TV department and staff have partnered with the symphony to film music director Jonathon Yates in a pre-concert talk before each concert this season.

During this week's performance, the symphony will be joined by members of the NCC Choir, the Fairfield County Chorale and the Fairfield County Children’s Choir.

Patrons may bring items to the concert, where there will be a drop-off area in the lobby. NCC staff, students and symphony volunteers will deliver the food to NCC.

Items needed include rice, cereal and oatmeal, baking mixes, oils, canned meat and seafood, sugar, apple sauce, peanut butter (or sun butter, soy butter), coffee, tea, bags of beans (especially black and pinto), shampoo, conditioner and soap. Gift cards to area grocery stores are also welcome.
