Norwalk Shootings Gang-Related, Chief Says

NORWALK, Conn. – Gang-related violence is increasing in Norwalk, Police Chief Harry Rilling said Monday, reacting to two shootings in less than three days.

Shootings at 23 Ely Ave. on Friday and 51 Chestnut St. on Sunday are related to a string of gun violence dating back several years, Rilling said.

“We have reason to believe, based on intelligence we have gathered and information that we have, that most of these acts are retaliatory in nature,” Rilling said at an impromptu news conference Monday. “It’s a back and forth between two groups of young people."

The Norwalk Hour reported that Bronx resident Ibo Boone, 25, was shot twice in the Ely Avenue shooting.

No one was hurt in Sunday's shooting on Chestnut Street, though a 23-year-old woman and her four children — ages 7, 5, 3 and 1 — were in the upstairs of the apartment when four shots were fired into the lower level.

There have been no arrested in either shooting. 

“These aren’t random acts of violence, these are acts that are pre-planned. The individuals that are shot are generally the person they’re seeking,” Rilling said.

The Chestnut Street shoot may have been at the wrong location, perhaps the former residence of a person of interest to either gang, Rilling said.
