Norwalk Shooting Victim Critical; Police Seek Car

The victim of the shooting on Chestnut Street on Wednesday is a 19-year-old Norwalk man, police said. His name is being withheld, and he was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to a police statement.

The shooting happened at 3:52 p.m. between Monroe and Henry Streets, within sight of the police headquarters. A police officer heard four or five shots. Officers responded and found one victim.

A four-door silver sedan with tinted windows was seen fleeing the scene, heading south on Chestnut Street. The vehicle turned right onto Henry Street and continued toward the intersection of Ely Avenue and Mulvoy Street.

Detectives would like to talk to anyone who saw the vehicle. Anyone with information on the shooting or the car is asked to call the Norwalk Police Tipline at (203) 854-3111, or leave anonymous tips online. Anonymous text tips can be submitted by typing "NPD" into the text field, followed by the message, and sending it to CRIMES (274637).

Extra police patrols were assigned to the Chestnut Street area Thursday to assure the safety of residents as well as students and staff at the two schools nearby, Columbus Magnet School and Side by Side Community School.
