Norwalk Receives Grant To Help Low-Income Residents With Job Training

NORWALK, Conn. -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved close to $1.2 million in grants to assist low-income residents in the Nutmeg State in finding employment and obtaining job training skills.

“We have made extraordinary investments in job training and dramatically increased the availability of affordable housing – both deliver more vibrant communities,” said Gov. Dannel Malloy. "Making worker training available is indeed good business throughout Connecticut."

The grants will fund job training for public housing residents throughout the state. Housing authorities will be able to hire 18 new positions dedicated to working with social service agencies, community colleges, local businesses and other partners to aid residents.

The program's long-term goals are to reduce the need for rental and public assistance by securing long-term jobs with increased and stable income.

Two positions and $138,000 were awarded to the Housing Authority of the City of Norwalk, while Greenwich and Stamford were each awarded one position and $69,000.
