Norwalk Police Sergeant Hurt in Motorcycle Crash

A Norwalk police sergeant was injured Friday morning while riding one of the city's new police motorcycles on the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Sgt. Joe Moquin may have broken his leg, Lt. Paul Resnick said. Mayor Richard Moccia had heard it might be a cracked bone in Moquin's foot.

Moquin was headed east and had just gone through the Heroes Tunnel, formerly known as the West Rock tunnel, when he collided with a car just before Exit 59, Resnick said. It was before 8 a.m. As Moquin came over the rise just out of the tunnel, the sun glare obstructed his vision. He was taken to a hospital in the vicinity, but Resnick did not know which one.

Moquin was riding one of the city's Harley-Davidson Road King police edition motorcycles on his way to the Connecticut State Police Academy in Meriden. The motorcycle, which was delivered to police in April, was damaged, Resnick said, but he had no specifics. Moquin is head of the police motorcycle squad.
