Norwalk Man Had Gun Under Car Seat, Police Say

A Norwalk man whose car was stopped for motor vehicle violations Wednesday was arrested for allegedly having a loaded revolver under the seat, police reported.

Derrick McCoy, 22, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and was being held on $150,000 bond. Police listed his address as 71 Saddle Road. The home on Saddle Road was shot at in September, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.

Officer Cesar Ramirez stopped McCoy at 1:46 p.m. on Concord Street, Cotto said. Ramirez was patrolling on Water Street in a car with an automatic license plate reader and was alerted to McCoy's Subaru because the plate, which belonged on a Cadillac, was revoked.

McCoy allegedly did not have any of the documents for the car. He was told to get his belongings out of the car because the police would tow it.

There were two men in the car; Ramirez ordered the driver back in and the passenger walked away. While doing an inventory of the car, Ramirez spotted the gun under the right front passenger seat -- detectives who came to the scene found it to be a fully loaded .22 caliber seven-shot revolver. They also found five rounds of ammo, a roll of black duct tape and a folding knife in the car. McCoy has pleaded not guilty and will next appear in court on April 14.

McCoy is on probation for a 2008 assault conviction stemming from an incident at Terzian Trucking Company, 15 Woodward Ave, in which a teen was stabbed four times in the abdomen. Tyvaughn Davis was also convicted in that case, according to The Hour, which reported that Davis was also the victim in a Jan. 19 shooting on Chestnut Street.
