NORWALK, Conn. -- The city of Norwalk will collect household hazardous waste Saturday at Norwalk High School.
A driver’s license or vehicle registration must be readily available. The program is for residential waste only, no commercial loads will be accepted. Do not mix chemicals.
Some examples of household waste include:
- Garage: Gasoline, auto care products, oil-based or alkyd paints, stains, thinners, spray paints, etc.
- Garden: Insect killer, weed killer, fungicides (rose dust), chemical fertilizer, garden lime, etc.
- Household: Cleaners, polishes, mercury thermometers, pet care products, pool chemicals
- Motor Oil and Antifreeze
- For latex paint, dry completely and throw in trash.
The collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open only to Norwalk residents. Electronics and cooking oil will also be accepted.
Residents looking to get rid of ammunition, flares, or explosives should call the Norwalk Police Department at (203) 854-3000. For asbestos contact the Connecticut State Health Department or Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Dispose of unbroken CFL bulbs at Home Depot or Lowes.
