Norwalk Gas Station Attendant Robbed

A Norwalk gas station attendant was briefly kidnapped at gunpoint by armed men early Tuesday before getting away from his captors and fleeing. The attendant had gone outside the Citgo station on the corner of Fitch Street and East shortly before 1 a.m. and was forced into a car by a group of men. He was taken a short distance away, then returned to the gas station by the robbers, who wanted his keys to the locked office.

Out of the car and with the gun taken away from his head, he pushed the men away and ran to get help.

Norwalk Police announced three arrests in the incident. One suspect is still at large.

Arrested were Darin Mann, 40, of 200 Reef Road, Fairfield; Alverto Ortega Garcia, 19, of Woodward Avenue, Norwalk; and Amber Greco, 18, of Muffin Avenue, Norwalk. All were charged with criminal attempt, two counts of kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy. Bond for Greco and Mann was set at $500,000. Bond for Garcia is $250,000.

Police have a warrant for Destiny Roundtree, 18.

Police say that after the incident, Officer David Vetare spotted a car matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle on Connecticut Avenue, broken down near Walmart.

Vetare apprehended Mann. The victim identified the suspect, police say, and that lead to the additional  arrests.

Besides being held hostage, the attendant was robbed in the car as well, police said.
