Callahan has served as Norwalk’s director of health since 1991. The department works to prevent and control the spread of disease, promote a healthy environment and protect the quality of life within the community.
“Tim has an incredible amount of experience preparing communities and governments for public health emergencies,” Duff said. “As Norwalk’s long-serving director of health, his knowledge and skills will be extraordinarily helpful for preparedness at the state level. Additionally, his understanding of Fairfield County will ensure state plans reflect the unique needs of our communities.”
“Given the unique needs of a city like Norwalk it is important for us to be represented at the state level,” Callahan said. “Norwalk develops public health emergency plans in conjunction with New Canaan. Due to this experience, we have the perspective of both an urban center and a suburban town. Adding a voice from Fairfield County will also strengthen Connecticut’s preparedness due to our proximity to New York City. I very much appreciate Senator Duff for this appointment and opportunity.”
The Public Health Preparedness Advisory Committee was created by the Connecticut Department of Public Health in July 2002 to review and advise the department on cooperative agreement activities. The committee contains more than 60 representatives from government (state, local and tribal), private, and non-profit organizations related to preparedness. The Connecticut Department of Public Health works in collaboration with the Public Health Preparedness Advisory Committee and its members’ constituencies to prepare for and respond to any kind of emergency that affects the public’s health and safety.
