NORWALK, Conn. A Norwalk school bus driver said the wrong thing to the wrong person a little girl and has been reassigned, according to published reports.
The Hour first reported Friday that a bus driver for Columbus Magnet School told a third-grade student that Santa Claus is fake and that Jesus Christ was not born on Christmas, according to a complaint filed by Louis Seeley, the student's father.
Jen Biddinger, spokeswoman for First Student, said the conversation was not what had originally reported. The bus driver was having a conversation about the nature of gift giving with other students and the 8-year-old girl overheard it. Biddinger would not say how old the other students were but confirmed published reports that the bus driver had been reassigned. She said that was better for everyone involved, including the bus driver. Asked if he had been reprimanded she simply replied that he had been reassigned and has worked for the bus company since 2007 without any complaints being filed against him.
Columbus Magnet Principal Emily Lopez said she had no comment. Seeley did not return a phone call, and neither did Elio Longo, chief operating officer for Norwalk Public Schools.
