A woman who allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from her Norwalk employer by forging company checks was arrested Friday. Tonia Brewster, 48, of Bridgeport, was charged with third-degree forgery and first-degree larceny. Bond was set at $50,000.
Brewster had worked in accounts payable at Binding Brauerei USA, a beer importer, since 2008. Her supervisors discovered in November that she had been forging company checks and depositing them in her own bank account, Norwalk police said. At that time, her supervisor added up the losses to be $61,109.55 and that did not include checks possibly deposited in other banks.
Brewster was arrested at the Angus Steakhouse in Fairfield and taken to Norwalk, police say.

A man who allegedly had a strong odor of burnt marijuana was arrested on an outstanding warrant Sunday night after being spotted by Norwalk police in the Roodner Court housing complex. Bryant Jones, 43, who produced a NEON maintenance work identification card that said he was Brian Jones, was charged with failure to appear, possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, illegal possession near a school and criminal trespass. Bond was set at $8,500.
Jones said he was visiting a niece in the complex. Police checked his name several ways and came up with the failure to appear warrant. While he was in the holding cage, officers allegedly found three small bags of marijuana in his possession.
