NORWALK, Conn. Two aircraft that entered the restricted airspace reserved for President Barack Obama during his visit Monday to Fairfield County were intercepted by F-15 fighters, according to a statement from the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The planes were intercepted in separate incidents, the statement says. The fighter jets intercepted the first aircraft at about 7 p.m. over Long Island, N.Y., after it entered the temporary flight restricted area. The military jet followed the aircraft until it landed without incident and was met by local law enforcement.
The second aircraft was intercepted at about 7:30 p.m. near New Haven in the temporary flight restricted area. That plane was allowed to proceed to its destination.
Obama landed at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport at 5:15 p.m. aboard the presidential helicopter, Marine 1. He attended a fundraiser at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa and then traveled back to Westport by motorcade for a fundraiser hosted by movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
