New Year Debuts Under Bright, Sunny Skies

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Heavy fog overnight burned off by Sunday morning to usher in the New Year under bright, clear and sunny skies, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on its website.

The heavy fog was blamed on a combination of light winds and high amounts of low-level moisture. Visibility was less than a mile in Fairfield County as well as other parts of the Connecticut.

After overnight lows in the mid to upper 30s, temperatures on New Year's Day were predicted to soar to a balmy 50 degrees under sunny skies. It will drop to about freezing overnight but warm to the mid-40s on Monday — also a holiday — with blustery winds.
