STAMFORD, Conn. Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a new domestic violence bill into law Friday.
The measure expands the ability to obtain restraining orders of those with a history of being stalked and threatened, and it allows teenagers to get protective orders against abusive partners, a press release said. It also requires police officers to give domestic abuse victims information about services they can receive, and it gives victims' families the right to receive restitution, a right already available to the families of victims of other violent crimes, the release said.
Stemming domestic violence is an ongoing challenge, and protecting victims during each step of the judicial process is a critical component, State Rep. Gerald Fox III of Stamford said in the release. Fox serves on the Domestic Violence Task Force created in 2009 by Speaker Christopher Donovan.
