Five additional peak trains are running, made possible by the installation of a third temporary transformer by Con Edison to serve an 8-mile section where the main electrical feeder cable failed.
The local diesel trains that are originating in Harrison will now make fewer stops and customers at Pelham and Mount Vernon East will now be boarding electric trains that originate in Stamford. Customers between Harrison and to Mount Vernon East should check the new schedule.
As Con Edison continues to repair the problem, it appears the power loss that has dogged the railroad since Sept. 25 appears to be the result of "human error," state Transportation Commissioner James Redeker said in The Hartford Courant.
Due to the continued power problems, Metro-North's direct New Haven Line service to the Giants 1 p.m. game at the Meadowlands will not operate on Sunday, Oct. 6.
New Haven Line customers with monthly or weekly tickets during the ongoing power outage is advised to hold onto the ticket so a credit can be obtained.
“Because of the unprecedented magnitude and duration of this disruption, the MTA Board has concluded that a credit for our customers is simply the right thing to do,” MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast said.
The MTA Board approved a credit toward future purchases for New Haven Line customers with monthly or weekly tickets valid for travel between Sept. 25 and the restoration of full service. An plan as to how the credits will be received is being developed and will be announced this week on the MTA website.
Metro-North’s New Haven Line was crippled by an early morning power failure Sept. 25. Limited diesel service was implemented immediately and gradually service has been added, including buses to the Harlem Line from some stations.
Full power is estimated to be restored by early next week.
