NORWALK, Conn. – The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is welcoming Alicia Wettenstein as its new director of development.

Wettenstein’s primary responsibility will be cultivating, stewarding and communicating with donors. She will work closely with the aquarium’s board and President Brian Davis to develop and implement organizational best practices for fundraising and donor stewardship.

Wettenstein graduated manga cum laude from Sacred Heart University and began her career in education and human resources before transitioning to the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining the aquarium, she was the director of development at Mill River Park Collaborative in Stamford, where she assisted in fundraising for the 28-acre urban park. Prior to working at Mill River Park, she was part of the senior management team of The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, now know as Serious Fun Network, a global organization devoted to creating residential camps for critically ill and at-risk children throughout the world.

Wettenstein brings a wealth of knowledge in donor relations and nonprofit management to the aquarium team. She is deeply committed to assisting the aquarium grow and to increasing the aquarium's role as a conduit for the community.

In addition to her work at the aquarium, Wettenstein volunteers for several organizations committed to improving the lives of children at-risk in South Africa. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, she grew up in Wilton and now lives in Easton with her husband, Bruce. They have two adult children, who live and work in New York City.
