Margaret Annunziato, Founding Church Member

Margaret Elizabeth Taft Annunziato, a founding member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk, died Thursday at Norwalk Hospital. She was 85 years old.

Margaret was born in Missoula, Mont., one of five siblings who grew up in the Great Depression. Her family eventually moved to Everett, Wash. In 1945, she met her future husband, Michael, a sailor stationed in Seattle. He caught her attention when he called her by name, although he did not know her. Margaret was queen of the Everett USO and was coming in the door carrying a boxed birthday cake with her name written on the outside, just as Michael was leaving.

The couple moved to Norwalk in 1954. He taught for 31 years in the Norwalk public schools while she was a nursery school caregiver and church volunteer.

After Michael retired they enjoyed touring America in their motor home. Margaret knew how to stay connected with her many family members via the Internet. She never came across a bargain or tag sale she didn't like and took great delight in displaying and sharing her treasures.  Survivors, in addition to her husband of 64 years, are four children: Catherine and Jan-Michael of Cary, N.C., Susan Livingston of Shelton, Steven and Laurie Annunziato of Norwalk, and James and Lynn Annunziato of Carmel, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; a grandson-in-law and a great-granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Theresa Limosani of East Haven.

Her family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 E. Wall St. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Ave. Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Window Fund, c/o St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851.
