Malloy Holds Onto Lead vs. Foley

Dan Malloy is maintaining the lead he’s held throughout the gubernatorial race over Republican Tom Foley, although the Stamford Democrat’s margin has shrunk slightly, according to the latest Quinnipiac University Poll.

Results, released Tuesday, show Malloy ahead by five percentage points. He is the choice among 48 percent of likely Connecticut voters, compared to 43 percent backing Foley. A previous poll, released Oct. 15, showed Malloy leading by seven percentage points, 49 to 42.

Seven percent of those polled said they were undecided. Eleven percent of the likely voters who named a preferred candidate said they could change their minds before Election Day.

“Throughout the fall campaign Democrat Dan Malloy’s share of the vote has been between 45 and 50 percent, while Republican Tom Foley’s has been stuck between 41 and 43 percent,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz in a release.

He said the latest numbers indicate the state’s vote is “solidifying” and noted that there has been little statistical movement over the past two weeks.

The candidates have comparable favorability ratings among those surveyed. For Malloy, 47 percent say their opinion of him is “favorable,” while 34 percent say they hold him in an “unfavorable” light. For Foley, the numbers are 45 percent favorable, 33 percent unfavorable.

The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. The poll was conducted Oct. 18-24 among 702 likely Connecticut voters.
