Lore Case Transferred to Stamford

Stacy Lore will be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court today on one count of larceny in the first degree stemming from her work in the Weston Public Schools, her attorney says. Records show Lore billed the Weston schools $300,000 for providing autism therapy though she allegedly holds none of the professional credentials she claimed. Today’s arraignment follows Lore’s arrest and arraignment in Norwalk Superior Court on Monday.

State’s attorney David Cohen ordered the transfer, said Lore’s attorney William A. Pelletreau. All cases begin in the geographic area where the arrest was made, he said. The Stamford court, however, handles cases that are B felonies or above.

Weston became the second municipality to file charges against Lore. Norwalk arrested her in March and charged her with larceny in the first degree, forgery in the second degree and a count of criminal impersonation. Bail for the Norwalk charges was reduced to $75,000. Bail for the Weston charges was set on Monday at an additional $75,000.

According to an investigation conducted by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s office, Lore worked for five school districts in Fairfield County — Norwalk, Weston, Stamford, Bridgeport and Middlebury. The total amount she collected from all five towns, including the amounts paid privately by families, is $635,000. Stamford, Bridgeport and Middlebury have not indicated whether they plan to file charges related to the case.

On Wednesday, Blumenthal announced his office would continue to pursue the civil investigation in which he is working with the Norwalk Police Department and the U.S. Department of Education. “We will seek restitution and possibly other remedies on behalf of parents, children and public schools,” he said.
