Lieberman Tours Norden

Senator Joe Lieberman stopped in to Northrop Grumman Norden Systems to check in with the Norwalk defense contractor. Accompanied by the usual press entourage, Senator Lieberman met with employees and took a tour of the production floor. Lieberman has been a booster of Norden Systems over the years and likes to tout the $105 million in federal funding he's steered to radar programs. Last year he fought for the JSTARS re-engineering program, which is entirely run from the Norwalk facility. JSTARS is a joint project of the US Air Force and Army which in acronym-speak stands for joint surveillance and target attack radar system. The military purpose is to provide an airborne, stand-off range, surveillance and target acquisition radar and command and control centre. Got that? The part that comes our of the Norwalk facility is the radar system. Tucked under a Boeing 707-300 series aircraft is a 24ft antenna. The antenna is used to scan stuff like elevation and real-time imaging of moving objects.
