Jennie DePanfilis, 83, Active Norwalker

Jennie Rogers (Ruggiero) DePanfilis, wife of former Norwalk Postmaster Ralph DePanfilis Sr., died Thursday at Norwalk Hospital. She was 83 years old.  

DePanfilis was an active member of the community member. She had been president of the St. Joseph Rosarian Guild, Italian Woman of the Year, a voting poll moderator and Diocesan Chairwoman of Pre-Cana conferences. She was also active in the Republican Town Committee and involved in raising funds for such local charities as Star, Inc.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by seven children: Probate Judge Tony DePanfilis and his wife, Kelly; Ralph DePanfilis Jr. and wife, Kathleen (Russell); Louis DePanfilis; Joseph DePanfilis and wife, Susan (Napoletano); Jean DesRochers and her husband, Ernie; Noreen Amato and husband, Tony, and Joyce Bretherton and husband, Fred; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Tony Ruggiero, Carol Fratina and Johnny Rogers.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 E. Wall St. The funeral will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home's parlor. The funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph Parish, 85 S. Main St., where a Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Gilbert P. D'Souza and Msgr. Walter C. Orlowski will concelebrate. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
